Defining What You Want for Your Health

Clarity Before Change: The First Step to Real Health Progress

If a genie were to grant you three wishes for your health, what would they be?

Pause for a moment and really think about it.
What do you want—not what you don’t want.

For example:

  • “I want to feel energized and move easily throughout the day.”
    —not—

  • “I don’t want to be in pain.”

This is your time to dream. Imagine your healthiest, happiest life—even if it feels far-fetched right now.

Dream First. Details Come Later.

At this stage, you don’t need to figure out how you’ll get there. Your only job is to decide what the healthy life you want looks like.

Picture your day:

  • Are you doing fun activities with friends?

  • Playing with your grandkids in the backyard?

  • Taking your dog for a walk in your neighborhood?

  • Running a marathon?

  • Floating down a river on a sunny afternoon?

The point is: you get to choose your life.
Yes, sometimes we have to work with the hand we’ve been dealt—but even then, you still have choices about how you move forward.

Why Clarity Matters Before You Can Create Change

Most women I work don't lack motivation—they’re stuck because they’ve never had the space to define what they actually want.

Generic goals like “get healthy” or “lose weight” don’t guide daily choices. They lead to chasing quick fixes or jumping from plan to plan without meaningful progress.

But when you’re clear on:

  • What matters most to you

  • What a healthier, stronger version of you looks like

  • What kind of life you want to live
…then you can stop spinning and start taking intentional action.

My Approach: Building Your Wellness Vision with You

When I work with clients, we start by looking at seven dimensions of health and wellness:

  • Physical

  • Social

  • Spiritual

  • Emotional

  • Intellectual

  • Occupational

  • Environmental

You’ll assess where you feel strong and where you’d like to grow.

Then, we explore your top values—the things that matter most to you.
Maybe it’s family, career success, community involvement, or simply feeling well enough to enjoy your day.

From there, we bring it all together to create your personal wellness vision. This vision isn’t a wish list—it’s a clear, motivating picture of the life you’re working toward.

Qualities of a Strong Wellness Vision

As I explained in my post “How to Create a Wellness Vision”, a meaningful wellness vision is:

  • Tangible – Specific and personal, not vague

  • Positive & strength-focused – Based on what you want, not what you’re trying to avoid

  • Grounded in your values – Reflects what matters most to you

  • Current – Written in present tense, as if you are already living it

  • Supported – Includes your support system to keep you focused and encouraged

This process becomes your compass. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by every new piece of health advice, you’ll know what aligns with your vision—and what doesn’t.

The HER Framework Connection: Clarity is the Foundation

In my coaching, I help women build Habits, Energy, and Resilience (HER).
But none of that works without clarity.

Clarity helps you:

  • Choose habits that are doable and sustainable

  • Protect and manage your energy with intention

  • Build resilience because you know what you’re working toward, even when life gets messy
