Clarifying Priorities & Creating a Wellness Vision
Oct 15, 2025
Last week I got sick with a respiratory virus. I had no energy, and my body just wanted sleep. At first, I panicked. My week was full—meetings, work, workouts, and a busy weekend of family plans. My daughter was coming to town, and other family members were about to leave for several months.
After a short pause, I sat down and asked myself one question: What really matters this week?
The answer was clear - my health and my family.
So, I canceled everything else. I rested, slept more than I have in ages, and made recovery my priority. The good news? By Sunday, I was feeling like myself again and able to enjoy a wonderful weekend with my family.
Different people might have handled it differently, but I made choices based on what mattered most to me in that season…health and connection. When you clarify your priorities, you’re able to decide what truly deserves your energy and time so you can show up for yourself and others in a way that feels balanced and intentional.
From Balance to Clarity
Last week, I wrote about Mastering Midlife Balance, how balance isn’t about doing everything equally but focusing on what matters most in each season of life.
This week, we’re going one step further: understanding how clarity helps you create that balance.
When you’re clear on your priorities, decision-making becomes easier. You stop chasing every new idea or feeling guilty for saying no. You make space for what actually supports your well-being.
Why Clarifying Priorities Matters
A great way to reduce overwhelm and move toward what you want in life is to know what your priorities are and why they’re important.
Once you identify them, you can focus on what matters most to you and begin creating a clear vision for the life you want to live, whether that’s an active life, more time with friends, or simply more calm and quiet.
You get to decide what your healthiest, happiest life looks like.
Start with Awareness: The Wellness Wheel
A great way to start your self-reflection is with the Find Your Focus Wellness Wheel. It helps you see where you’re thriving and where you might want to shift your attention.
There are no right or wrong answers, just insight. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s awareness.
Knowing your strengths and areas of growth helps you invest your energy where it counts most right now.
Questions to Reflect On:
- What do I value most in this season of life?
- What’s working well? What’s draining my energy?
- What would life look like if I gave myself permission to focus on what matters most?
When you align your actions with your values, motivation and consistency become much easier.
From Priorities to a Wellness Vision
Once you identify your priorities, the fun begins…creating your Wellness Vision.
Your wellness vision is a clear, motivating picture of what you want your health and life to look like. Think of it as your personal guide, something that reflects your goals, values, and strengths and gives you a foundation to build upon.
A strong wellness vision is:
- Tangible – specific and personal, not vague or generic
- Positive & strength-focused – based on what you want, not what you don’t want
- Grounded in your values – it reflects what truly matters to you
- Current – written in the present tense, as if you’re already living it
- Supported – includes the people and resources that keep you focused
Your vision becomes your compass. It helps you make intentional choices instead of reactive ones.
