Accepting Help: You Don’t Have to Go It Alone
Sep 09, 2025
Have you ever noticed how you can be successful in so many areas of life such as your career, your family, your responsibilities, yet still feel stuck when it comes to your health?
For years, I told myself “I can do it myself” and “I can stand on my own two feet.” Independence was something I valued deeply, thinking that it made me stronger.
Over time, I realized that holding too tightly to that belief actually slowed me down. My biggest breakthroughs didn’t come when I tried to power through alone. They came when I finally opened myself up to support.
The Lesson I Learned After Surgery
After my first hip replacement, I spent six weeks working with a physical therapist on rehabilitation. When that phase ended, I decided to keep the momentum going and hired a fitness trainer.
Those weeks taught me something powerful: when you have a team behind you, you’re able to reach your potential so much faster, and with less stress. The PT and trainer gave me tools, accountability, and encouragement that I could never have duplicated on my own.
It wasn’t about weakness. It was about setting myself up for success.
What I’ve Learned About Accepting Help
Here’s what I’ve discovered:
- You can achieve results faster. With someone guiding you, you cut through the noise and move forward with confidence.
- It’s easier and less stressful. The right support reduces the mental and emotional load.
- You may discover new interests. Input from others can spark ideas you never would have tried on your own.
- You’re still in charge. Accepting help doesn’t mean giving up control. You can treat new ideas like experiments. Try them, see what works, and leave behind what doesn’t.
Why Support Is the Missing Piece in Your Health
So many women I meet are strong, successful, and capable in their careers and families. Yet when it comes to their health, they feel stuck. They’ve tried the diets, the workouts, the apps, and the supplements. What worked in their 20s or 30s doesn’t seem to work anymore, especially with shifting hormones, fatigue, and creeping weight gain.
And while they can lead teams at work and manage a household, they often feel frustrated and even guilty that they can’t “figure out” their health on their own. They scroll through endless health tips online, save posts, maybe even start strong. But without accountability, the motivation fades.
That’s why accepting help is so powerful. The right support doesn’t mean giving up control. Accepting help means finally cutting through the noise, staying consistent, and moving forward with confidence. With encouragement instead of guilt, science-based strategies instead of fads, and a trusted partner instead of trying to do it all alone, lasting change becomes possible.
That help can be in the form of a friend, a fitness-focused group, a fitness trainer, or other people in your gym class. Just start talking to others and find someone who you’re comfortable with. If you're ready for more in-depth support from someone who can help you cut through the noise, stay consistent, and help create a plan that truly fits your life...consider working with a health & wellness coach.
